For photographers Instagram has become a baron wasteland, full of reels and stories, fake accounts and bots. Algorithms where, even if a person does follow you, they will never see your work unless you are willing to pay to ‘Boost my post’. Due to this, I have been slowly losing interest in this platform, but what choice do we have?
I started doing some research, knowing the launch of my website was coming, thinking there was no other choice. Instagram was it…
But then I found VERO. A social media platform promising no algorithms, no bots and full resolution images… too good to be true right? Well, a year in I can confidently say that they are delivering on their promise. A community of photographers, artists, videographers and musicians all together sharing their works and stories, supporting each other.
Logging on each day, I’m not wasting time blocking spam accounts, instead my dashboard is right where I left it. It remains time locked, meaning as I scroll up, I get to see everything that others have posted while I’ve been gone. There are active photography challenges, giving you a reason to browse your own back catalogue, and a steady stream of new content tempting you to try out new styles.
No cropping allows you to post full Panoramics!
No algorithms mean no longer having to squeeze 30 of my images into a 20 second video. I can post a photograph in any aspect ratio, and not only will my followers actually see it, they can even tap to see an enlarged high detail version! Finally, a way to show off those small details on a small screen!
To receive genuine feedback on my work only drives me to photograph more, making me better each day! I’m grateful to have found this community and am excited to see where it grows!
